Content is
such an important part of your website. If your content
isn't appealing to your visitors, they won't be returning to your
site.
It's great if
you're able to write your own stories, poems, music, etc., but we
realize that everyone doesn't have that talent. But .....
when you made the decision to build a site, you had an idea in
mind. So now, grow on that idea and keep your site
consistent with it. We come across sites that have so
many different topics, we lose track of where we are.
And here again,
the music. If you use music, make sure you have permission
to do so, and ALWAYS be sure to provide your visitor with a way to
turn it off. Everybody has a different taste in music.
What you may think is the perfect music for your site, may make your
visitors CRINGE when they hear it.
Another area
where people get carried away is with animations.
Animations have been proven to cause migraine headaches and
seizures in some individuals. We would prefer that you not
use them at all, as they are very distracting. If you must
use them, limit them to no more than two, and please make sure
they are relevant to the content/design of your site.
A contact/email
link or guest book is also very important to your visitors.
They may have a question to ask you, comments to make,
etc.
SPELL-CHECK ....
SPELL-CHECK .... SPELL-CHECK!!! Can we say that any
clearer? We're not all the greatest spellers in the world,
but it is very easy to use a spell-checker. Not checking
your spelling is just laziness on the part of the webmaster.
Also .... don't even solely rely on the spell checker. Have
someone proofread your site before you open it to the
public.
